The newly redone (by Checkland Kindleysides) global headquarters of airline Virgin Atlantic at Gatwick is a fun and refreshing expression of the company’s brand image. The predominant red and white speaks to the overall brand while the bits of orange and blue create a pleasant area for both employees and visitors to pass through. The walls are adorned with quirky line drawings of some of the airlines destinations as well as some familiar company icons and images that allude to it’s British roots. My personal favorite aspect of the space is the feeling of movement it conveys, the futuristic reception desk is sleek streamlined as if it were moving through the space. It plays nicely with the long neon light tubes suspended overhead, these really remind me of when the Millenium Falcon makes the “jump to hyper speed” in Star Wars, the sense of movement is just awesome, it only gets better when you see how they reflect on the polished red floor. Overall very cool.
