Patriots or Giants, we’re not going to declare our allegiance. Let’s just say next week will be very interesting in our office given we’re in CT right smack in the middle of both teams & it appears we’re pretty divided who we’re rooting for! So to start game day off right we thought we’d spice things up with Bloody Mary’s with a kick. We’ve added a bit of cilantro and some added extra heat (more…)

This week’s cocktail comes from our Design Director Dana. She’s had the opportunity to travel on many development trips that have taken her all around the world. A few weeks ago after another kind of development trip to our local liqueur store we brought back Zubrowka – a bison grass vodka from Poland. Dana took one look at the bottle and said we had to make “liquid apple pie” with the vodka. On a development trip through Poland she was served this almost every bar she went. We’ve all had shots that are supposed to taste like chocolate cake & a lemon drop so I was a bit skeptical that a bit of this vodka and some apple juice would taste like apple pie. Well after mixing up the liquid apple pie here in the studio we can say this cocktail tastes just like apple pie. It’s deceptively simple. Recipe after the jump. (more…)

A few weeks ago we were actually able to get a spot at Drink in Boston. Getting there about 5:30 on a Friday the wait was about 25 minutes which isn’t all that bad. When we left the line was well out the door and around the building. After sampling a few of their classic cocktails I landed on one similar to this. It’s not on the menu. What really makes it is the St.Germain and Peychauds bitters. Although this doesn’t quite stick to the straight seasonal sips we’ve been serving the past few weeks it’s completely perfect to serve at any party. We call this one the Winter Splash because it’s not even into winter we’re dreaming of somewhere to make a splash into warm waters of some island nation. Plus, how good does this one look?!

Winter Splash

1.5 oz. Vodka (this can easily be substituted for a gentle gin)
.75 oz. St-Germain
1.5 oz. fresh squeezed ruby red grapefruit juice (fresh squeezed makes a difference!)
2 dashes Peychauds* bitters (if you don’t care for Angostura bitters try this)
Squeeze of lime
Mint for garnish

For this cocktail, you can either shake in a shaker or add to a glass and stir it will be delightful either way.

*Peychaud’s Bitters, (taken from the all providing Wikipedia) Originally created around 1830 by Antoine Amédée Peychaud, a Creole apothecary from the French colony of Saint-Domingue, now Haiti, who settled in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1795,[1][2] is distributed by Sazerac.[3] It is a gentian-based bitters, comparable to Angostura bitters, but with a lighter body, sweeter taste and more floral aroma.

It’s always fun to serve a signature cocktail during the holidays. Many cocktails this time of year feature darker spirits like whisky and bourbon or flavors like egg nog, cranberry and spice. We’re all for those flavors however it’s also nice to mix things up and try something more unexpected. To us pear is a wonderful holiday flavor and it “pairs” really well with tequila and cilantro. Throw in some red linens & it transforms into a great alternative holiday cocktail. We have to admit on finding this one in Food & Wine’s Ultimate Cocktail Guide and of course we had to serve it up in the studio making sure the flavors were just right. The recipe & many more can be found on F&W’s site. Just so you don’t have to go anywhere we have it right here. Recipe after the jump. (more…)
